The Ninth Annual ONE-PS Picnic and Community Expo is this Saturday, March 19, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Ruth Hardy Park. We will have more than 60 booths at the expo – so many that we’re working on a map to give out at registration. Saturday’s barbeque lunch will be catered by Three Sixty North Bar and Grill and we’ve asked Tony to plan to feed 900 people! New this year is the Bark in the Park, Pooch Easter Parade and Costume Contest. Pups will be vying to be judged either the cutest, funniest or most original. This is going to be fun!  Smear on your sunscreen and join your neighbors and friends at the park. I’m attaching the event flier so you can do one last reminder to your neighbors. They’ll never speak to you again if you don’t invite them. J
 
VillageFest will celebrate its 25th anniversary tonight, March 17. Attached is a news release with information about what’s on tap.
 
Running Wild 4 Hope is a 5K Run/Walk fund-raising event taking place Sunday, March 20.  The event will begin at Ruth Hardy Park with registration at 6:30 a.m. and the run/walk starting at 8 a.m.  To accommodate the race participants, Tamarisk Road from Avenida Caballeros to Via Miraleste will be closed from approximately 7:45 a.m. to 8:15 a.m. Sunday. And Avenida Caballeros between Tamarisk and Tachevah will be closed from 8 a.m. to about 9:30 a.m. Local traffic access for homeowners will be permitted. Thanks to Greg Gilman, co-chair of the ONE-PS Communications Committee, for leading today’s Brown Bag Lunch session about Nextdoor.com. His video tutorial about this social media platform is very helpful. Nice job, Greg.
 
The Sonora Sunrise Neighborhood Organization is holding a guided landscape walk of a portion of its neighborhood on Monday, March 21, from 4:30 to 6 p.m. The walk will be led by a landscape designer and Master Gardener. All proceeds will go to The Well in the Desert. A flier is attached with more information, including how you can join walk.
 
The Third Annual Family Fun Fest will take place from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., Wednesday, March 23, in the Palm Springs Stadium. The flier and attached news release contains all the details and lists the organizations and businesses that will be participating in this free community event.
 
The Palm Springs Firemen’s Association annual Easter egg hunt begins at 9 a.m. sharp, Saturday, March 26, in Ruth Hardy Park. Children, ages 2 through 9, will be hunting for more than 3,000 eggs.  A news release is attached with more information.

As part of the City Council’s budget process for the upcoming fiscal year which begins July 1, all organizations, agencies, etc., requesting City sponsorships, funding for programs, fund-raiser event participation, or fee waivers (including in-kind services) must submit an Event Sponsorship Application to be eligible for City Council’s consideration -- even if the group has received funding in the past. 
All requests must be submitted by the application deadline. For your convenience, attached is the Event Sponsorship Notice and Application outlining the requirements.  You may also go to the City’s Website at www.palmspringsca.govclick on Government, scroll over to City Clerk, click on Event Sponsorship and fill out a fillable Application Form.  You must print the application, sign it and return it to the City Clerk’s office before the deadline. Completed applications and supplemental materials must be received at the Office of the City Clerk in City Hall, by 3 p.m., Thursday, April 7.

Two  Budget Town Hall meetings will be held next month -- 6 p.m. Monday, April 11 and 6 p.m., Tuesday, April 12 in the Council Chamber at City Hall. That Monday’s meeting will focus on the City’s General Fund and Tuesday’smeeting will cover public infrastructure and capital improvements.
In addition, the full City Budget will be presented to the City Council on Wednesday, April 20 followed by a special City Council Study Session on Wednesday, May 11. The official public hearing for the Budget is slated for Wednesday, June 1. Residents can watch the Town Hall meetings on Palm Springs Community Television Channel 17 or online at www.palmspringsca.gov.
For those who are unable to attend the meetings, the City Council encourages residents and stakeholders to email public input to CityClerk@palmspringsca.gov

Attached is a flier you may use to invite those in your neighborhoods to the picnic. We want to make sure everyone in our 40 neighborhood organizations knows about this signature event you’re hosting. Also, the Picnic Committee needs volunteers to help that day. Please email Picnic Committee Co-Chair April Gunkel at agunkel@icloud.com. Even if you only have a few hours, we could use your help. We have a variety of “jobs” to match your time and talents, with shifts starting at 8 a.m.

The ONE-PS Publications Task Force has just released the attached Editorial Content Guidelines document and Neighborhood Input Form for our ONE-PS Guide to Palm Springs Neighborhoods.   This is a unique and important project for the organization, and your participation will help it progress smoothly and efficiently. 
ONE-PS representatives (or alternates)  -- please read the top of the first page, then complete the form and return it to Eric Chiel (EricChiel@mac.com) at you earliest convenience. 
 
Attached is an updated schedule for our Brown Bag lunch sessions.  Our next session, scheduled for one week from today (March 17) will be led by Greg Gilman and will address new elements and best practices for NextDoor Leads and Communications Officers.  Please note that next week’s session will be held at the Fire Department Training Center (3000 E. Alejo). Also attached are the meeting notes from last month’s Brown Bag session which focused on fund-raising ideas for neighborhoods that donate participated in Modernism Week home tours.

A five-week road construction project will begin Monday, March 14 on Ramon Road from Sunrise Way to El Cielo Road. During construction, there will be one lane of traffic open in each direction, so drivers are encourage to find alternate routes or allow extra time. Here are the project details:
Location:  Ramon Road from Sunrise Way to El Cielo
Start of Construction:  Monday, March 14, 2016
Duration:  Approximately 5 weeks
Lane Restrictions: Lanes will be reduced to one lane in each direction.
Construction Hours:  7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Mon-Fri (Except legal holidays or inclement weather)
Funding:  Construction cost is approximately $800,000 using Surface Transportation Program Funds (federal), and Local Measure A Funds.   No Measure J or General Fund monies are being expended for this project.
Description of Work:  Cold milling of existing asphalt concrete pavement, asphalt concrete paving, adjustment of sewer manholes and water valves, removal and replacement of concrete curb ramps, installation of truncated domes, traffic striping and signage, replacement of traffic loops, and all other appurtenant work.

During construction, traffic may be restricted at spot locations for a few hours, so please follow posted detour signs. Here are the project details:

Funding:  Construction cost is approximately $450,000 using federal Safe Routes to School Funds and Gas Tax. No Measure J or General Fund monies are being expended for this project.
Description of Work:  Construction of pedestrian safety improvements including installation of curb and gutter, sidewalk, ADA curb ramps, crosswalks, bulb-outs, chokers, pedestrian countdown traffic signals, and traffic striping and signage for bicycle lanes, and all other appurtenant work.

A major portion of the construction work will commence during the Palm Springs Unified School District’s Spring break between March 21 through April 1 to minimize disruption to the students.  Please take extra time, avoid the construction area, if possible, or seek alternate routes for the duration of work to minimize delays.

Attached is a news release from the Desert Water Agency about it stepping up water waste enforcement. DWA’s new water waste enforcement plan includes:
• Fining customers who DWA observes violating water use prohibitions and restrictions;
• Devoting more Agency staff time to water waste enforcement;
• Encouraging all Agency representatives to be on the lookout for water waste violations;
• Deploying marked water efficiency enforcement vehicles; and
• Reaching out to high water use customers.

Attached is a public hearing notice for the March 16 City Council meeting. The purpose of the hearing is to consider approving a Hotel Operations Covenant with Palm Mountain Resort, LP, at 155 S. Belardo Road in accordance with Chapter 5.26 of the Palm Springs Municipal Code to provide a Hotel Operations Incentive Program for the operation and maintenance of hotel facilities that enhance the tourist and travel experience for visitors to the City, maximize the use of the City’s Convention Center, provide attractive and desirable visitor facilities and experiences, and assist the City in achieving its tourism goals.
