Los Compadres Neighborhood Organization (LCNO) Membership
The LCNO Board of Advisors is in the process of creating a membership program.  Meanwhile, we accept general donations to assist us in continued operations (mailing supplies, postage, signage, newsletter service, etc.) and that enable us to offer more programs and events throughout the year and to grow the organization.

If you would like to contribute, please make checks payable to  Los Compadres Neighborhood Organization and contact us at [email protected] for a mailing address.

The neighborhood blade signs in Palm Springs were developed directly out of the efforts of the organization now known as ONE-PS (Organized Neighborhoods of Palm Springs).

History of Palm Springs Neighborhood Blade Signs.  The program for the distinct neighborhood "blade" signs, which are attached to existing street sign poles, was formally established by the City of Palm Springs in December 2008. The individual neighborhood organizations associated with the City's Office of Neighborhood Involvement purchase the signs themselves. However, the City is responsible for the final approval of the design (ensuring visibility and legibility) and handles the installation onto the existing street sign poles*.

Los Compadres Neighborhood Organization (LCNO) Blade Sign History
In 2013, the LCNO Board presented three designs to the general membership at the LCNO Annual Meeting. LCNO residents at the meeting voted for their favorite which is our design today. The winning design was presented to the City for final approval. The City paid for installation of the signs and LCNO raised funds to purchase the signs. It's important to remember that all of the blade signs in Los Compadres were originally funded by residents.

2025 Update - As many have noticed, the blade signs have faded due to the extreme summer temperatures in the desert. A previous LCNO board documented the state of the blade signs and made plans to raise funds in order to replace the faded signs. The well attended 2025 LCNO Annual Meeting held at Demuth Park Community Center was successful in raising funds for the purchase of new signs. Many local businesses donated gift cards, experiences and products which were raffled off during the Annual Meeting. A very popular event with great prizes generated the funds to purchase replacement signs.

Blade Sign Research - LCNO created a sub-committee of board members in order to look at replacing the faded signs. Committee members decided it didn't make sense to just buy signs from the same vendor. They decided to research sign manufacturer companies to understand if there is a better option than the existing faded signs. Committee members researched 11 companies that make street signs while also speaking with the original vendor. None had a solution for the fading and the original vendor offered no solution for the faded signs they manufacture. Thinking about sustainability, committee members asked all companies if they would take back the faded signs, strip them and re-print on the original aluminum blade sign. None provided that service. The committee is continuing to look for a solution to reuse the faded signs, including finding a recycling solution for the aluminum signs.

Ordering New Signs - Having researched many companies, two stood out. The original vendor and a local business, Canyon Print & Signs. LCNO decided to order replacement signs from Canyon Print & Signs for multiple reasons. We could support a local business as well as the new signs came with a three year warranty (no other company offers any warranty for their signs).

Installation - The City installs the signs without charge (exception for intersections with traffic lights/power, which installation is funded through Measure J funds) and LCNO provided the signs to the City. Installation was quick and below are photos of an old faded sign at Beverly at Guadalupe and a sign being replaced with a newly printed sign at the intersection of Beverly and Compadre.

Going forward - LCNO will monitor signs on a yearly basis to check for any significant fading. The measure used to determine whether a sign needs replaced is whether it is legible. In other words, some fading may exist so long as the sign is able to be read. When a sign is determined to be replaced, LCNO will use funds raised to order a sign and provide it to the City to install.

Sponsoring a sign - If you or a neighbor would like to sponsor the install or replacement of a sign - thank you! We're asking for a $200 per sign donation in order to procure the sign and have it installed. Note that this amount includes a donation to LCNO to support our efforts keeping our neighborhood vibrant and awesome place to live. Feel free to reach out to us at [email protected].
