CERT Training offered by the PS Fire Department
The Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Program educates people about disaster preparedness for hazards that may impact their area and trains them in basic disaster response skills, such as fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization, and disaster medical operations. CERT members are also encouraged to support emergency response agencies by taking a more active role in emergency preparedness projects within their community. Experience has shown that following a major disaster, emergency resources are quickly depleted. Individuals and neighborhoods must be self reliant for the first 24 to 72 hours. For more information and to sign up for the training, visit www.palmspringsca.gov/index.aspx?page=57

Modernism Week Fall Preview 2014
Celebrating 10 years, the mission of Modernism Week (MW) is to celebrate and foster appreciation of mid-century architecture and design, as well as contemporary thinking in these fields, by encouraging education, preservation and sustainable modern living as represented in Palm Springs.
Join PSNIC on their inaugural tour of the famed neighborhoods of Palm Springs. Neighborhoods like: El Rancho Vista Estates, Indian Canyons, Racquet Club Estates --- just some of the captivating names that evoke the Palm Springs lifestyle. This is a self-driven tour of mid-century neighborhoods that best depict the varied architecture and heritage of residential Palm Springs. In most of the neighborhoods visited, some homes will be open for interior touring. Driving through other neighborhoods, residences of specific historical or architectural interest will be noted on the souvenir map for exterior viewing. By the conclusion of the tour, participants will have discovered and personally experienced what makes Palm Springs and it's neighborhoods such a comfortable and wonderful place to call home.
All net proceeds from this tour will directly benefit PSNIC initiatives in coordination with established neighborhood organizations. Jeffery Holley (LCNO Vice Chair) is the coordinator of the tour between PSNIC and MW. E-mail Jeffery with any questions at projeff@gmail.com. For more information, schedules and tickets, go to www.modernismweek.com.

Emergency Preparedness Workshop
"90% of earthquake survivors are saved by other survivors" from the Community Emergency Response Team of Palm Springs. Come out for this valuable workshop on how to get yourself, loved ones, pets, and neighbors prepared for an emergency. Anjila Lebsock, the PS Fire Department Emergency Services Coordinator, will be presenting as well as your LCNO Board members, who will be taking the training in September, and other Los Compadres CERT members. Anjila says the neighborhood orgs can really help in emergencies by being prepared and helping to "buy time" until emergency services can get to us in the event of a crisis.
