Tuesday, Feb. 16, Twin Palms Neighborhood Organization’s ceremony to rename Arquilla Road to William Krisel Way, 10 a.m., at the intersection Arquilla Road and East Twin Palms Drive.
Tuesday, Feb. 16, ONE-PS Governance Committee, 3 p.m., East Conference Room.
Wednesday, Feb. 17, ONE-PS Picnic Committee, 10 a.m., East Conference Room, City Hall

A reminder that beginning today, Thursday, Feb. 11, the following roads will be closed to vehicle and pedestrian traffic:
  • Kirk Douglas Way, between Ramon Road and El Cielo Road, beginning at 5 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 11 through 4 p.m.,Tuesday, Feb. 16.
  • Airport Center Drive at Kirk Douglas Way, beginning at 5 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 11, through 4 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 16.
To access the Palm Springs International Airport, please use the main entrance at the intersection of Tahquitz Canyon Way and El Cielo Road.
 
It was announced this week that Acting Police Chief Bryan Reyes, a 22-year veteran of the Palm Springs Police Department, is our new Police Chief. Congratulations, Chief Reyes! A news release with more information is attached.
 
Modernism Week is here and we want to acknowledge our many neighborhood organizations that will be opening their doors for the home tours. Thank you for being such great hosts and hats off to your many volunteers. Have fun!

To cooincide with Modernism Week, the Twin Palms Neighborhood Organization is hosting a ceremony beginning at 10 a.m. Tuesday, Feb. 16, to rename Arquilla Road in honor of famed mid-century modern architect William Krisel. This free event will take place at the intersection of East Twin Palms Drive and Arquilla Road, the site where Krisel’s designs first broke ground 60 years ago. A news release is attached with more information.
 
Our next Brown Bag lunch session has been rescheduled to Thursday, Feb. 25, at noon in the Large Conference Room. The topic will be “Neighborhood Fund-raising Without Modernism.”
 
The Palm Springs Chamber of Commerce, in cooperation with Palm Springs Hospitality Association, Desert Business Association and Main Street, is sponsoring an organized luncheon to address Palm Springs’ growing homeless population.  The Feb. 18luncheon titled “Homelessness: Community Impact Luncheon” will take place on from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Hard Rock Hotel, 150 S. Indian Canyon.  A news release is attached with more information about the event.
 
February is Black History Month and attached is a news release listing what’s scheduled including the Black History Month Parade, Saturday, Feb. 27.
 
Attached are two public hearing notices for the Feb. 24 Planning Commission meeting.
  • A public hearing will be held to consider an application by Jacqueline Becker, owner, requesting a variance for the conversion of a garage to living space; the construction of a carport within the side yard setback; and the addition of a second story to an accessory structure located at 295 East Palo Verde Avenue.
  • A public hearing also will be held to consider an application by Susan Thabit, owner, for a Conditional Use Permit for the placement of five  tennis court light poles located at 790 N. Mission Road.
