Also, you may have heard that a new City-funded day program for homeless individuals started Wednesday at Roy’s Desert Resource Center. The City of Palm Springs is committed to fighting the problem of homelessness in our community and the Council, along with the Homeless Task Force, hope this new program will help those who want to lead productive and successful lives transition from the streets. See attached news release.
 
Many of you may have seen it already on NextDoor, but City Manager David Ready recently sent out a community update on the Palm Springs Dog Park, which is currently closed for renovations, but expected to reopen in November. See attached update on the progress and stay tuned for more details on a grand reopening celebration. Everyone from our neighborhoods will all be invited to bring their four-legged friends for fun and treats!
 
Finally, there will be a public hearing on at the Oct. 5, 2016 City Council meeting regarding the establishment of the Palm Springs Small Hotel Tourism Business Improvement District. See verbage below and attached document. Have a wonderful weekend!

CITY COUNCIL
 
CITY OF PALM SPRINGS
ESTABLISHMENT OF THE PALM SPRINGS SMALL HOTEL TOURISM BUSINESS IMPROVEMENT DISTRICT
 
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that the City Council of the City of Palm Springs, California, will hold a public meeting at its regular meeting of Wednesday, October 5, 2016, and public hearing at its regular meeting of November 2, 2016.  The City Council meeting begins at 6:00 p.m., in the Council Chamber at Palm Springs City Hall, 3200 E. Tahquitz Canyon Way, Palm Springs.
 
The purpose of the October 5, 2016, public meeting is to consider a Resolution of Intention to establish the Palm Springs Small Hotel Tourism Business Improvement District and to levy assessments within the district.
 
The purpose of the November 2, 2016, public hearing is to consider an Ordinance, pursuant to the Parking and Business Improvement Area Law of 1989, California Streets and Highways Code Section 36500 et seq., establishing the Palm Springs Small Hotel Tourism Business Improvement District, to provide business promotional activities for hotels and motels in the City of Palm Springs of 49 rooms or less, and authorizing the levy of assessments on small hotels and motels of 49 rooms or less within the district boundaries, which are the city limits of the City of Palm Springs.
 
The proposed assessment and protest procedures will be outlined in the Resolution of Intention, if so adopted by the City Council at the October 5, 2016, public meeting, and duly noticed pursuant to law.
 
REVIEW OF INFORMATION:  The staff report and other supporting documents regarding this matter are available for public review at Palm Springs City Hall between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m., Monday through Thursday.  Please contact the City Clerks Department at (760) 323-8204, if you would like to schedule an appointment to review these documents.
 
COMMENT ON THIS PUBLIC MEETING OR PUBLIC HEARING:  Response to this notice can be made verbally at the Public Meeting or the Public Hearing and/or in writing before the hearing.  Written comments can be made to the City Council by email at City.Clerk@palmspringsca.gov or by mail or hand delivery to:

Here is your Weekly ONI Update.
 
The Palm Springs Fire Department invites you to the 15th Anniversary 9/11 Ceremony at Fire Station 442 located at 300 N. El Cielo on Sunday, Sept. 11.  The ceremony, conducted by the Palm Springs Fire Department Honor Guard, will take place at 5:46 a.m. in front of the Fire Department’s much celebrated 9/11 Memorial. President Barack Obama has ordered a moment of silence at 8:46 a.m. EST or 5:46 a.m. our time. Flags will be lowered at half-staff from sunrise to sunset on 9/11. Coffee and donuts will be available -- and immediately following the moment of the silence, the department will show a 35-minute video. Everyone is invited to attend!
 
On Monday, Sept. 12, City Manager David Ready and a panel of staff and stakeholders will begin candidate interviews to replace Lee Bonno, our former Director of Neighborhoods and Community Relations. We’ll let you know just as soon as a new replacement is hired.
 
The Historic Site Preservation Board Meeting will meet Tuesday, Sept. 13 at 9 a.m. See link below to agenda.

Just a reminder, the next City Council meeting is slated for Wednesday, Sept. 21 at 6 p.m. If you can’t make it to the Council Chamber, you can watch it live on Palm Springs Community Television Channel 17 or online at ​www.palmspringsca.gov.
 
The City of Palm Springs is committed to gun safety. With that in mind, the Palm Springs Police Department would like to invite residents to attend a special Firearms Safety Course on Oct. 15 & 16 and Oct. 22 at the Police Training Center, 200 S. Civic Drive.  The course fee is $160 and includes comprehensive 14 hours of classroom instruction, demonstration and materials dealing primarily with handguns.
